A Methodology with Quality Tools to support Post Implementation Reviews

The Post Implementation Review (PIR) is arguably the single most cost effective tool available for software process improvement. However to maximise the benefits, a methodology and supporting tools for the PIR are required. This paper examines the prerequisites for successful reviews and the key elements of the method. It then describes eight practical techniques (both qualitative and quantitative), for corrective management of the software development process. Some guidance and comments on their use, plus a simple model for the estimation of the value of a PIR, are provided.
